Fixed Wire Testing: What Every Duty Holder Needs to Know

Electrical safety is invisible until it isn't. Cables age, connections loosen and insulation degrades out of sight — which is exactly why fixed wire testing exists: to prove, on paper, that an installation is safe.

What the regulations expect

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is the evidence a duty holder needs. Commercial installations are typically inspected and tested at least every five years — sooner in higher-risk environments — with every observation classified so you know what needs immediate attention, what should be planned, and what is simply worth monitoring.

Testing without the downtime

In a working building, the hard part is isolating circuits without stopping the operation. WM Maintain plans EICR programmes around live sites — phased testing, out-of-hours working and close coordination with site teams — so certification stays current without disrupting the day.

Because our engineers both test and fix, any remedial works are quoted from the report and closed out by the same team that found them — so nothing falls through the gap between testing and remediation.
